ACS Grade 9 Colour Night
ACS Grade 9 Colour Night
A Spectrum of Talent
This year, Assumption saw a huge influx of grade nines, bringing with them an array of different talents. One could say that they themselves are very “colourful” people. The Assumption College Student Council made sure they were colourful as they hosted the annual grade nine colour night.
The grade nines were separated by their homeroom into one of four different colours: red, blue, green and yellow, for the evening of fun and memories. On September 25th, the grade nine students dressed down in their colours going all out with hair dye, facepaint and even funky hats. All of them sported their colours well for the tough competition and rivalry that would come about that afternoon. At 4pm, led by student council and cabinet, the coloured teams competed in series of games and competitions to determine the winning team. Through games such as tug of war and musical chairs the rankings were pretty close. When they were all tallied up, both Red and Yellow had tied for the greatest number of points.
Here all teams competed in the annual cheer off, the final games usually deciding the winning team-- it was almost any team’s game. Though the Blue Team and Green Team put up good shows of force, it once again came down between Red and Yellow, a rivalry which had been tested throughout the evening. In the end Red clinched the win, but aside from that, the grade nines were now focused on the pizza dinner that was just arriving for them.
Following dinner, the grade nines participated in their first high school dance at Assumption, where they learned some classics like the hustle and love shack. As the night ended, the grade nines wished that the fun would never stop. Yet all things come to an end.
ACS students of all grades remember their Colour Night usually as one of the best events in their high school career. The grade nines this year were certainly not disappointed. “It was a great night, I met lots of new people and had a great time with old friends. I will always remember this night.” -Connor Horvath, grade 9. One of the best things about Colour Night, is the fact that they get to meet so many new people they never knew before. Many friendships are created on this special night.
Student Council was enthused with the success that Colour Night had for the grade nines. “We were really happy with the response of the Grade 9’s that evening. We are glad they had so much fun and hope that this tradition will continue for ACS in the future.”-Alex Young , member of student council.
This event has become intertwined as part of the school that matters so much to all. The tradition from elementary to high school can sometimes be tough for new students, and events like Colour Night are just ways that help welcome our new Lions to the Den and incorporate them in to our school community.
