Environmental Class Helps Green ACS - TD Friends of the Environment Fund

Under the supervision of Mr. Ricci, the grade 11 Environmental Science class took an initiative in adding to the existing beauty at Assumption College School. Following a design provided by Antler Services Inc., the students (see below) participated in greening one of ACS’s garden beds located on the same side of the student parking lot. The students worked in both dry and wet conditions near the end of semester 2 to achieve a delightful garden appreciated by both staff and students. The first task included the removal of all existing weeds. Second, the students cultivated the area, and added a layer of topsoil to the previously designed garden bed. Next, they planted various ‘water-wise’ plants in the bed, added landscape fabric, and topped the surface with black mulch. In addition, some emerald cedars and maple trees were planted near the garden bed. The project was made possible through a grant applied by Chris Radojewski, one of the co-presidents of the student body and also member of the environmental club at ACS. The grant money was kindly offered by TD Friends of the Environment Fund. The community at Assumption College School sincerely thanks TD and greatly appreciates the hands-on opportunity that took place with respect to learning.
