Fast-forward, Rewind, Play /Fashion Show
“Fast-forward, Rewind, Play” was the theme of Assumption College School’s annual Charity Fashion Show. For the past five years, Wayne Lachapelle, Chaplain at ACS, has organized and choreographed these amazing shows. Every year, the proceeds go to the Children’s Wish Foundation, which was started in 1983 by volunteer Laura Cole. The organization now has the ability to help 800 children’s wishes come true every year. This year, a remarkable $3,000 was raised to help make the wishes of children with high risk, life threatening diseases come true. Over the past four years, a total of approximately $12,000 has been raised by this event to help change the lives of many children.
The over ninety participants prepared for approximately five months, starting in September by filling out applications. They helped in putting together performances which included dance routines and videos. The videos were shot in a variety of places from Long Point and Grand Bend for beach scenes to Hamilton, London and Brantford. In addition, there were staff participants and their children who took part in a number with the classic Bob Segar song Old Time Rock and Roll. The staff participants were Mr. Martorelli, Ms. Fergus, Ms. Aquino and Kevin O’Neill.
Many stores from around the area partook in the event. From the Lynden Park Mall there were Mark’s Work Wearhouse, Northern Reflections, Northern Getaway, Boathouse Row, Jean Machine, Cotton Ginny, Sport Check, La Senza, Protique, West 49, Stitches, Tip Top, Roots and Sears. In addition there were Reitman’s, Harry’s, Value Village, Pleasant Ridge Saddlery, Moore’s Clothing for Men and Bridal Fashions by Jacri Freeman Formal Wear. Laura and Laura Petites were two new stores that were added this year.
The music for this year crossed over many years, hence the title fast-forward, rewind, play. The title was established because the memories of old cassette tapes when you had to rewind and fast-forward then flip over in order to find a song that you wanted to listen to. There were songs from every generation: from the 50’s to the present. There was also a Britney Mega Mix song and video for the opening number edited by Wayne.
So, what is on the agenda for next year?? Wayne has came up with the theme “Cover Me” which will include cover tunes and remakes of other songs. That is all the hints that you are going to get. Hope to see you all next year!
