Michael A Olech Educator of the Year

Michael A Olech Educator of the Year

A quiet man, who has successfully re-directed and shone the spotlight on his ACS Communications students and their successes since the school opened, Mr. Michael Olech, Communication Studies teacher at Assumption College School, Brantford, Ontario, could no longer avoid recognition as he was presented this prestigious honour for promoting technical education and skills development at the Brant Skills Development Group Annual Dinner and Awards Presentation on May 25th, 2005.

Nominated by Mrs. Patricia Lenz, proud principal of Assumption College School, in recognition of all the in-class and extra work he does with his students, for ACS and numerous community partners, Mr. Olech graciously accepted this Award with humility and thanks.

Mr. Olech has steadfastly advocated on behalf of technical education and the need to develop strong educational “skills” programs enabling students to pursue careers in the skilled trades sector. He proudly acknowledged the successes of his students, present and past, as he told his audience how much he truly loves his chosen profession and cannot imagine doing anything else. “It’s ALL about the students,” he expressed. ACS students in attendance had great praise for Mr. Olech’s Communications classes, and for the opportunities which he presents them. “Whether we’re developing a promo for an ATV morning production, making a video for a community agency, or researching and producing a remembrance video in recognition of our local war veterans, we are gaining invaluable real-life experience with state-of-the-art equipment and excellent instruction. Who could ask for anything more?”

Mr. Olech keeps current with the changing trends in Communications technology, each year upgrading his curriculum to reflect the industries needs and standards. A cheque for one thousand dollars, from the Board of Directors of Brant Skills Development Group, was presented to Mr. Olech. This will go towards upgrading technology in his classroom.

In addition to the one thousand dollars, Mr. Olech was presented with a beautifully framed certificate of recognition as Educator of the Year – 2004-2005 from Brant Skills Development Group, as well as certificates from Mr. Dave Levac, MPP on behalf of the Province of Ontario, and from Mr. Lloyd St Amand, MP on behalf of the Government of Canada.
